| just so xanga knows i'm still alive and kickin'. so after a summer of frolicking, fine wining and dining, housewife-ing, and partying like a rockstar (i.e. amongst i-bankers/lawyers/business people who can chug grey goose faster than you can say/slur "table service"), i find myself wrapping up the second week of ubc law out in vancouver. in the end, it just didn't make much sense to throw away a spot other people are clawing to get into for a full-time job. guess i'm gonna be a lawyer after all. i'm also giving this strange concept of "monogamous relationship" a try. it's working out alright, though now the added distance kind of blows, a lot. he's older, a workaholic, and asian (i'll pause for the gasps). vancouver is a very pretty place. it's every bit as scenic and laid back as expected. the mountains and water and healthy people are abundant, although not as abundant as the sheer number of asians... and i haven't even been to richmond yet. the adjustment is quite a big one, seeing as how i came not knowing a single person out here. so far i'm enjoying myself and everything is moving along swimmingly. but despite the clean air and chill people (which are lovely), i find myself beginning to miss toronto and its dirtiness/craziness/chaos. law school has been a pleasant surprise so far. i don't know if it's because school has only begun and the claws haven't been revealed yet, but the people are totally not as bad as i expected. almost everyone is either married or in a committed relationship, which is a weird change. the professors are eloquent and actually deliver good lectures, which is highly refreshing after four years at u of t. the readings are definitely plentiful, but i've already experienced some expansion to my vocabulary (hello legal jargon!). it is very reminiscent of high school though, we get locker assignments, have all our classes in the same ugly building with the same people, and a set schedule with an early start and a long lunch. i've even been forewarned of the prevalence of cliques, dating drama, and sleeping around by the people who have gone through law school. on the bright side, the students here tend to fall onto the right side of the iq distribution curve (as opposed to those from high school who lean so far left that they've practically fallen off the curve). the people are definitely a lot smarter (some too smart - in my constitutional law class alone there is a kid from harvard, one from yale, another from cornell, and a last one from princeton). that's about it for now. i guess i should strive to update more often, seeing as how i'm gonna be doing enough writing to crush a small child. but then again, i also said i'd go to the gym more often. oh, and i also went on a hot air balloon ride in montreal back in august. it was every bit as awesome as i imagined. | | |
| but school is in session and procrastination mode is in full effect and alas here i am crawling back...
more bits of randomness...
5 weeks in italy
- super awesome.
- lots of walking around in siena, rome, florence, venice, milan, and various small towns.
- attempted to keep trip blog but failed miserably: http://sandyinsiena.blogspot.com
- for photos, refer to cult page known as facebook.
school
- have come to the conclusion that fourth year sucks.
- making important decisions regarding your career and the rest of your life is no fun.
- current list of options: lawyer, investment banker, professional trophy wife.
- seeing as how this could potentially be my last few months of
school ever, am determined to make the most out of this final
semester... as soon as the weather warms up.
- failed to make it to fireball this year.
apartment
- glad i moved out of rez, it's a nice change.
- getting along with the roommates. she plays the role of the mom and he plays the role of the drug-pushing bad influence.
- cleaning and cooking (or attempting to) has proven to be
extremely difficult. am in a constant state of confusion when in the
cleaning closet and/or kitchen.
reading week, 2007
- romantic honeymoon getaway to cuba with the best friend.
- 7 days of sun, sand, rum, and frolicking in skimpy bathing suits.
- in the process of narrowing down which ones to bring, out of a current count of 12. i think i might have a problem.
- determined to return with even, glowing tan instead of sunburnt ass.
boys
- increasingly convinced i'm completely undate-able and will live with lots of cats and bad hair.
- even the younger cousin's juggling two suitors. grandmother really, really concerned.
- makes me think i should be more worried than i actually am. monogamy is just so overrated.
- anyone know where all the quality guys congregate?
others
- a few recent events have led to the conclusion that i should try
this silly little thing called "moderation" when it comes to alcohol...
- have been somewhat of a social hermit. i blame the weather.
- having your own place comes with even more freedom, which isn't always a good thing.
- am torn between good behaviour and living my 20s to the fullest (which will no doubt result in bad behaviour).

| warning: long rambling post ahead. proceed with caution and medical insurance.
work
doing some promo stuff for the molson grand prix.
perks:
- 4 hour minimum; which means that i get paid for at least 4 hours, even if the actual event is less than 2.
- getting to eat really good food.
- getting paid for travel time.
- travelling involves driving one of the pace cars for the actual grand
prix. i get the automatic since i can't drive a stick (which the boys
hog anyway), so it's not as much fun. however, it's such a hot car that
its prettiness makes up for the mediocre handling.
- going to fun places like fancy golf clubs and wasaga in said pace car; drawing attention, trying to look cool.
- people like you when you give them free things.
- i like me when i go home with free things.
before you ask, there is no whoring-it-up whatsoever. molson wants us
to keep the sex appeal to a minimum, which means no short
shorts/skirts.
i'll also be working the street party on thursday and the grand prix
itself all weekend. doing what, i have no idea. really crossing my
fingers for just getting paid to booze. that would be nice.
school
- received lsat score; contrary to what u of t has led me to believe, i'm not dumb.
- must figure out what to do with life.
- leaving for italy at the end of july, starting to get a wee bit excited.
- need one last elective, any suggestions?
love
- nonexistent, as usual.
- annoying people + bad kisses = one worried grandmother.
- seriously, the sweet little granny is wondering why daddy isn't
beating down boys lined up around the block with a broomstick.
- i blame the cousin, who just got hitched with an elaborate wedding that got the grandma all excited.
- the last i heard, she is thinking of setting me up.
- someone marry me, quick.
miscellaneous crap
- mexico in july, maybe.
- made the decision to move out of rez (finally) with alex and judith.
unfortunately, he is in france and she holds a full-time job. i'm
looking but it appears to be a lot more difficult than originally
thought.

| "Men always did this: tell a smart girl that she's pretty, tell a pretty girl that she's smart."
How true is that?
